There are five major tools that we can use for process improvement. The tools are:

  • Baseline and Comparing Processes – there are four major processes when doing baseline and comparison of our processes: baselining, baseline classification, comparison, and identifying baseline differences.
  • Flowcharting – Flowcharts are one of the best ways to document and understand how different business processes work. This tool lets you describe logical relationships and break down processes into activities and events. Flowcharts help an organization better understand how much work goes into each project.
  • Value-stream mapping – Value stream mapping shows how work and information move through a process from beginning to end.
  • Cause and effect analysis – Cause-and-effect analysis gives this evaluation a structure. It looks at six areas, or causes, that can lead to a specific response or effect: materials, machine, method, people, measurement, and environment.
